On Saturday 18 May 2024, Cambois Rowing Club hosted the annual Wansbeck Regatta. This year’s regatta was particularly special as it featured the Victor Ludorum in memory of Barrie Hanley. The prestigious Barrie Hanley Cup and a £250 prize, generously sponsored by FES International, were awarded to the club with the most wins.
The day was blessed with glorious sunshine and saw a fantastic turnout of rowing clubs from across the region. Spectators and participants got to enjoy excellent racing and some close finishes. The competition was fierce, showcasing the level of talent and dedication within the rowing community.
As always, the food offerings were a hit, with a vast selection of savoury dishes and sweet treats receiving numerous compliments. Including the famous Cambois Corned Beef Pie!
Cambois Rowing Club emerged victorious in the Victor Ludorum, achieving a total of 8 wins throughout the event. We are immensely proud to keep and display the Barrie Hanley Cup at our club for the coming year. The competition was intense, and we look forward to defending our title in 2025. Who will rise to the challenge next year?
A heartfelt thank you goes out to all our sponsors, coaches, volunteers, and parents. Your support and hard work, both leading up to the regatta and on the day itself, were crucial to the event’s success. We couldn’t have done it without each and every one of you.
